Artist Statement

Situated both above and below ground, Mind the Gap cuts through the city’s architecture to reveal the visible and hidden systems that define it. The work reflects on London as a space of transit and labour, where history, infrastructure, and human presence intersect. It draws attention to those whose work sustains urban life yet often goes unnoticed. The phrase “mind the gap” becomes a quiet reminder of social distance — between visibility and invisibility, surface and depth.

“Mind the Gap” explores the high visibility clothing that street workers wear, yet are still invisible to the people on the other side of the ‘Gap’ Through a dual presentation, the Ambient Light Mode shows London as we see it, while the Lightbox Illuminated Mode exposes the underground in physical, and the metaphoric sense. It also shows daily life in the windows as well as external life in the form of the ‘War of the Worlds’ type creature exposing the city with it’s x-ray vision.
