Artist Statement

Located at the Museo de la Evolution Humana in Burgos (Humanities Museum), this work traces the regression of humankind — the shrinking of the heart mirrored by the expansion of the ego. It questions how far humanity has truly evolved when it has become acceptable for people to sleep on benches. The bench becomes a symbol of inequality and displacement, reflecting the fragile and transient nature of human existence and the invisibility of those pushed to society’s fringes.

“Devolution of Man” explores our relationship with ancient and modern man, suggesting that human existence has regressed. Through a dual presentation, the Ambient Light Mode show Burgos as we see it, while the Lightbox Illuminated Mode exposes the classic “March of Progress” but implying the devolution of man by showing elements such as a shrinking heart , and an underprivileged man sleeping on the bench. the security camera implying the big brother aspect of our society.
